The McKeesport Hospital Foundation is the recipient of two Scholarship Endowment Funds established by Elizabeth Shaw Gamble. Through Mrs. Gamble’s generosity, a scholarship in memory of her mother, Virginia Carpenter Shaw, is intended to encourage students accepted or currently enrolled in the St. Margaret School of Nursing at UPMC McKeesport to pursue a career in nursing. Mrs. Gamble’s second scholarship is dedicated in memory of her father, Walter Carlyle Shaw, and is intended to encourage current UPMC McKeesport employees to pursue a career in nursing or to assist current licensed practical nurses to becoming registered nurses. The first distributions from these restricted funds in the Foundation are planned for the fall of 2011 to qualified nursing candidates selected by the St. Margaret’s School of Nursing Advisory Selection Committee.
The McKeesport Hospital Foundation and the St. Margaret’s School of Nursing at UPMC McKeesport have also entered into an Agreement for the purpose of awarding the Virginia Carpenter Shaw and Walter Carlyle Shaw nursing scholarships. In accordance with the procedures established by the Advisory Selection Committee comprised of UPMC McKeesport and McKeesport Hospital Foundation leadership, the Assistant Director of the St. Margaret’s School of Nursing program at UPMC McKeesport will be responsible for ensuring that the scholarships are awarded to individuals who meet eligibility requirements. No member of the Advisory Selection Committee or related individuals to Committee members may benefit from the scholarships. Additional gifts to the McKeesport Hospital Foundation Scholarship Funds are welcomed.
Through a concerted effort, the St. Margaret’s School of Nursing leadership at UPMC McKeesport and the McKeesport Hospital Foundation will ensure that the scholarships are conducted annually to targeted applicant constituencies.
